You sometimes wish you can change many things about your employees, you see all their areas for improvement and you constantly make your opinion known to them. You have to be proactive, you have to be business oriented, you have to be nice to customers, you should finish your assigned work before going home, why don’t you try and focus on doing excellent work.

These and many more comments are statements that we use to express our dissatisfaction with our staffs work and output. Sometimes, they listen and completely turn over a new leaf, at other times and with other people, they change for a few days and revert back to status quo. While some other ones continue with the way they have often acted, ignoring your corrections and comments altogether.

Will you be shocked if I inform you that your employee also wishes to change a few things about you? The first thing your employee wants to change about you is your level of communication.

Oftentimes, we assume that because we see the big picture, the employee should see it too, but that is not the case, if you don’t share the big picture with your staff and show them their unique place in it, they may never come to value their position and their job. The technical apprentice who is given all the bolts and nuts for the most obscure part of an airplane to make sure they are all screwed in place may be unaware of the importance of his role, and may not realize that everyone on board can be involved in a plane crash if he doesn’t tighten the bolts well and ensure they hold together in the air.

Even as the visioneer, you will agree with me that sometimes, you are tired and burnt out and you find yourself often having to remind yourself of the “why” the reason you started this business in the first place. In the same way,you must remind your staff often why they are doing this and the impact they are making on their world which is resulting in the resources they are getting in their pockets.

You will immediately start to see an improvement in their approach to work and in the results that give to clients.

If you haven’t communicated the big picture to your staff in a while, call a meeting today and do that, it will set the positive tone for a profitable, focused and result laden week.
